An Update

Due to a reorganization under new leadership, I was recently laid off from my day job, where I was a book designer at an educational publisher for just shy of 5 years. So I’m taking this opportunity to hang out my shingle once again, offering my graphic design services to the world at large.

I’m looking for freelance work as I figure out my next steps, and I’d appreciate any leads and recommendations from you, or the passing along of my name to someone who may need my services.

I specialize in: graphic design, marketing materials (print & digital), branding, book covers and interiors, typesetting, stationery design, product design, storyboarding, art direction, illustration, Squarespace website creation, and more.

My to-do list is pretty long, as I figure out this next chapter. Tweak my website, update my LinkedIn profile, reach out and start networking, etc. But I’m taking my time and will be intentional about what I’m doing and where I’m going. In the meantime, freelance, baby!

All this to say, I’m really excited. The world is my oyster! Oh, I’m sure I’ll have a freak out about it all soon, but in this moment, I’m happy. Because it’s really sunk in for me that all of this - the world, society, life - is ever-changing and nothing is permanent. And that’s amazing. That realization, that acceptance… that mindset opens up a universe of possibilities. I’ve taken the time over that past few years to really look at my career, and my life, and reflect on what I’ve done and how I got there.

My outlook is summed up by one main question: What do I want to try next? Answering this will take time. Do I want to work for another publisher? Or maybe do branding and marketing design again? What about going in a new direction… museums, exhibit design, wayfinding design, working with kids, teaching art lessons, set design, or even art therapy… the sky’s the limit. If you have any ideas, I’m all ears.

You never know who people know and the direction that life will take you.
